ONWARD FLIGHT TO ZANZIBAR ALSO ANNOUNCED

Next year British Airways (BA) will begin flying to Tanzania again after an absence of more than 15 years from the country.

According to a press release from BA’s Media Centre, flights will depart on the 10-hour journey from London Gatwick Airport. For those continuing onto Zanzibar, there’s a two-hour wait at  Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), where passengers will have to leave the aircraft, before finally landing at Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ), just outside the capital Stonetown, an hour later, making a total journey time from London to Zanzibar of 13 hours.

The flights will operate three times a week and are seasonal, operating only during the high season of June to October (though the first flight is actually scheduled to be on the 29th May). There are currently no plans to operate during the other high season of January-March. 

The move by British Airways follows Air France’s foray into the Kilimanjaro market last year. 

Apparently prices will start at £849, though you may well find the tickets cheaper on sites such as Skyscanner.
